James Combs is rock done right. Powerful and soulful, yet upbeat and lively, his latest album To Know You Is To Save You takes the best half of Low and the best half of John Lennon, mixes it together with a little bit of Tom Waits and The New Pornographers, and blends the whole thing together on high. decisively hooky, and intensely appealing. Rounded, fiery melodies spark over a smokey, gritty rhythm section, as Combs’ voice spits out edgy, Lennon-esque lyrics.
Let It Come Down is James Iha's first solo album. It was released in 1998, during which Iha was still with The Smashing Pumpkins, before the release of Adore. Iha took on a more acoustic country-ish sound reminiscent of the songs he contributed to the Pumpkins, notably shying away from the darker sound of Billy Corgan's songwriting.
