White Hassle were a band with the lead singer Marcellus Hall based in New York, New York. Dave Varenka (also of Railroad Jerk) played drums, with Chris Maxwell and Joachim Kearns on guitars. The Houston Chronicle described their music as "stripped-down. noisy blues-soaked rock". The band was named after "White Castle," the American fast food restaurant. Their debut album, "National Chain," was released on Matador Records in 1997.

White Hassle was a primitive folk/blues side project of vocalist/guitarist Marcellus Hall and vocalist/pots 'n' pans player Dave Varenka, both better known as members of the alternative rock unit Railroad Jerk. After performing a handful of live dates opening for acts including Skeleton Key and Cat Power, White Hassle issued their 1997 debut National Chain, a collection of their own original junkyard ballads mixed with covers of songs by Hank Williams, George Jones (2) and Ray Charles.
