European Classical music has long relied on music competitions to provide a public forum that identifies the strongest players and contributes to the establishment of their professional careers. Many offer competitions across a range of categories and in these cases they are listed under "General/mixed". Competitions with age restrictions are listed under "Young musicians".

The competition was conceived by the Institute of Art of the Academic Culture Association, which remains its primary organizer. It was created with a view towards promoting talented young musicians and popularizing Polish contemporary music throughout the world. International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition. We are thrilled to announce our Eighth ICMEC, sponsored by the New England Conservatory of Music School of Continuing Education is now OPEN. The Competition will take place on March 7-8th, 2020 and is open to wide range of chamber music groups. The Sendai International Music Competition is held every three years, aiming to contribute to the global culture of music and to international cultural exchange, through the nurturing of young, talented musicians. The International Music Competition Vienna "Grand Prize Virtuoso" is open to all nationalities and ages in: strings, piano, wind, vocal and chamber music disciplines. The Competition will be open to individual musicians and ensembles of up to six people who reside in or hail from the Chicago metro area.
