One Spirit (started in 2005 as a collaboration between Frans Vollink and Sebastiaan Cornelissen) produced its self-titled debut album in 2005. In 2009, Richard Hallebeek was added to the band, and the result was the album which you are now reading about. A little bit of background: Frans Vollink is a severely underestimated bass player from The Netherlands. Sebastiaan Cornelissen is a severely underestimated drummer from The Netherlands. Richard Hallebeek is a slightly less underestimated guitar player from The Netherlands. Among jazz and fusion musicians, they are considered to be right up there with the best of them, but outside these circles, they are virtually unknown. Which is a shame, really. I would want to urge the AllMusic staff to take a closer look at what these guys have to offer. Back on topic: this album. Go For It comes across as a bit more composed and disiplined than its predecessor. Frans and Sebastiaan are a singularly tight rhythm section, that can do anything you throw at them. Both have the chops (in fact, ludicrous quantities of chops), but they never let this get in the way of the music, and they always value the spaces as important as the sounds they make. If you like Tribal Tech, Allan Holdsworth or (further back) Weather Report, this may very well be just for you. if you're a drummer, you should absolutely listen and learn. If you're a bass player, you will love this. If you're a guitar player... I'm not sure. You might want to burn your guitar. But you'll love it. It also has quite some playing by Steve Hunt, and Randy Brecker throws his trumpet in the mix a couple times too. If you're none of the above, but you just like playful, quirky, joyous, inspired, pyrotechnically-infused fusion, this should be in your collection.
