Aardvark (5) ‎– Aardvark. Label: Esoteric Recordings ‎– ECLEC2286. Format: CD, Album, Reissue, Remastered. This is a great album, and this particular CD issue is very nice and highly recommended. Nothing is cheaply made, the disc and inserts are of very good quality. The booklet includes liner notes and very nice and bright artwork.

Unfortunately, the few times short-lived British prog outfit Aardvark's name ever comes up, it's usually due to their rock footnote status: guitarist Paul Kossoff and drummer Simon Kirke were in an early version of the band before they went on to fame and fortune with Free.

Aardvark, Aardvark Remastered ESOTERIC 2018. Sort: Recent best-seller Results cached. It's rather a shame that Aardvark only came out with one album, and there's no cause to speculate as to what may have become of them, had they stuck together. For the sake and weight of this album, the band and their self-titled debut are sentenced to a corner of prog rock obscurity. For some great use of the organ (particularly on "Put That In Your Pipe") and its release at a formative period for progressive rock, Aardvark can be recommended to fans of the genre, though more casual sorts might be better off sticking to the classics.

Aardvark are very much a band of their time. 1970 was a year of transition for British rock music; sounds were getting heavier, and psychedelia was giving way to the more artistically refined and ‘mature’ efforts of progressive rock. Although this quartet released a single album before fading into obscurity, their self-titled debut finds a comfortable place at the crossroads of these sounds. Psychedelic pop and the fetishized British take on American rhythm and blues are wrapped up in a bundle that only slightly reeks of prog.
