Each session had previously been released as four-track EPs in 1986 (The Peel Sessions 1982) and 1987 (The Peel Sessions 1981). Truth", "Senses", ". and "Dreams Never End" (recorded 26 January 1981) would be later recorded with Martin Hannett and released on Movement. The production and arrangements differ notably from those on the album. These later sessions were collected together and released in 2004 by Strange Fruit records as In Session.

Both, then, had ample opportunity to shock and surprise their listeners, and both grasped that opportunity with open paws

The Peel Sessions Album is a compilation album by English rock band Wire. It was released in 1989. It consists of nine recordings done for John Peel between 1978 and 1979. Graham Lewis – bass guitar, vocals. Robert Gotobed – drums. Bruce Gilbert – guitar. Colin Newman – vocals, guitar. Annette Green – photography. Don Walker – remastering. Vici MacDonald – sleeve design.

The latter tendencies, though, start to creep into view on the Peel session from the following year, with "5-8-6" pointing the way to the vigorous but characteristically glum techno-pump of Power, Corruption & Lies. Two tracks from the same session-"Too Late" and a cover of Keith.

The version of We All Stand featured on the '82 John Peel session is far superior to the 'official' version that appeared on Power, Corruption & Lies, capturing an emotional authenticity that the 'proper' version doesn't come close to matching. Turn The Heater On is an essential rare gem from the same session. The earlier 1981 sessions are also well worth a listen—the fledgling new line-up sounding a bit lost, but bravely forging ahead regardless—and arguably a couple of the songs fare better here than on Movement.
