Talk is the debut studio album by Australian artist Daniel Johns. As his first full-length musical project since the hiatus of Silverchair was announced in May 2011, the album was released on 22 May 2015 by record label Eleven. Talk was created over the course of 2013 and 2014 with Johns actively pursuing a sleek neo soul R&B feel, influenced by artists such as Janet Jackson.
It’s been four years since frontman Daniel Johns parted ways with his ‘90s grunge outfit Silverchair and scrapped what would’ve been the band’s sixth album. And if you’re keeping count, it’s been eight years since the Australian three-piece released their final full-length, Young Modern, and - somewhat unbelievably - 20 years since they dropped their debut, Frogstomp
Daniel Johns has been synonymous with Rock band Silverchair since the young age of thirteen when he began the band with Ben Gillies in 1992. Initially begun as The Innocent Criminals a year earlier, after practicing daily, the guys made a demo of Tomorrow, a song they submitted to competition, and subsequently won. By then, they renamed the group Silverchair, and got a three-record deal with Sony Music in 1994, which fast-tracked 1995’s Frogstomp when Tomorrow had a six week run at 1 on the Australian Singles charts. Talk is an exceptionally fun, yet confessional, and varied album; a mature change of pace from the gifted, well-seasoned artist in Daniel Johns. If Talk is any indication of Johns’ future solo offerings, his post-Silverchair career looks extremely bright. Like the in-depth, diverse coverage of Cryptic Rock?
Talk, the debut solo album from former Silverchair singer Daniel Johns, is a bold statement heralding the arrival of something he has been working toward for years. With the final Silverchair album, Young Modern, Johns attempted to distance himself from the '90s angst that popularized his band during grunge's heyday, combining Diorama's expansive rock sound with the cheeky pop heard on the Dissociatives project. However, neither ventured far enough to fully distance Johns from his past

Former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns’ ‘future soul’ album Talk is likely to be just his latest remodelling. Daniel Johns pushes forward with debut solo album, Talk. Mid-2011 and Daniel Johns, the former singer and songwriter for Silverchair, is experimenting with new material within months of the band announcing it was going into a deep sleep. It has been four years since Young Modern, Silverchair’s last release. The intervening period has been marked by intense jamming, talk of a new album, and then complete collapse as Johns’ renewed.
