Minx is a 1985 album by the British singer Toyah Willcox.
Minx was the first album released by Toyah Willcox as a solo artist. It has something of a controversial reputation as it represented a departure from her previous works, which tended toward thematic albums written almost in their entirety by Willcox and long-standing band members such as Joel Bogen and Phil Spalding. As an attempt to make a more "polished" pop album and (supposedly) to break into the .
CDPRT 26415, CD 26415. This is an impossibly glossy Toyah album, all Fairlight Page R and Yamaha DX-7 and with only a little of the essential Toyah mojo. Soldier Of Fortune, Terrorist Of Love" could have been on "Changeling" but Christopher Neil's production has that same "plastic"' sound of Nile Rodgers that wears out its welcome. Don't Fall In Love" is the best single here but it too succumbs to mid-80s production. Soul Passing Through Soul" is a poor knockoff of Bowie's "Heroes
It is the album with the least amount of input from Toyah herself, as almost every track was composed by Mike Bennett, with Toyah contributing lyrics to only one track. The dance nature of the album contrasts with the rest of her catalogue. However, it was missing the complete lyrics included in the original issue, the sleeve notes in this reissue included the following explanation behind the origins of the album. Toyahs highly distinctive delivery gives the Phoenix album the feel of a journey which at times goes into a hauntingly infectious trance. The album became very hard to find in the 1990s, and before its 2005 reissue, CD copies were commanding high figures on e-bay.
Mayhem is a compilation album by the British new wave band Toyah, released in 1985. It is a collection of previously unreleased material consisting mostly of demos and tracks not included on previous albums. When the band left Safari Records, the record company found enough material to compile one last album; this was apparently done without the consent of the band members. In spite of that, it was well received by the band's fans.
