Natty Dread is the seventh studio album by Bob Marley and the Wailers, released in 1974. It was the first album released as Bob Marley and the Wailers instead of just the Wailers, the first recorded without Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, and the first recorded with I Threes, a female vocal trio consisting of Marcia Griffiths, Judy Mowatt, and Marley's wife, Rita Marley.

King Tubby was also instrumental in making the dub album a viable format for release, leading to the growing overseas popularity of the form during the mid-70s. Yet, the limited nature of Tubby’s recording equipment has stimulated much debate over the years. And it was always a team of engineers that were working there, rather than just Tubby himself. In the early days of his studio, singer Pat Kelly was one of the resident engineers on an on-off basis, but he was.

Natty Dread In A Greenwich Farm. Press Along Natty Dread. Give Me Strength Oh Jah. The Gorgon Is The Ruler. King In My Empire 12″ (released on Basic Channel with Rhythm and Sound) has kept his profile high with roots lovers - The track was distinctive due to its stripped minimalist structure and roll off sub lows, contrasted with ethereal vocals. This collection from Trojan is stylistically mixed, combining his soulful output with lover’s tunes and some evocative sufferer’s roots vocals. Another cut from Tappa’s MPLA album surfaces here - the impassioned Please Be True, with its shifting Tubby’s/Bunny Lee rhythm track burning red hot under the emotive vocal. Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing moves on from the Bunny Lee flying cymbal style, which can wax repetitive and begin to grate - so it is a relief when the style shifts to a militant Rockers snare and rim shot heat.

After an argument with Lee that resulted in the police being called, the two made peace with Lee giving Zukie some riddims to record over, and taking these and others from Joseph Hoo Kim, he toasted over them at King Tubby's studio, these forming the album MPLA (released in 1976)
