The first and earliest work here is Peter Racine Fricker's Concerto for violin and small orchestra from 1950. With its lean textures, inward lyricism, and edgy but still tonal harmonies, Fricker's work somewhat resembles a younger and more passionate Hindemith. Next is David Morgan's Violin Concerto from 1966.

11: 2. Concerto for violin & small orchestra, Op. 11: 3. Violin Concerto: 1. Violin Concerto: 2. Violin Concerto: 3. Violin concerto: . For me the highlight of this CD is the David Morgan Violin Concerto written in 1966. but there are some impressive passages that move well beyond the palettes of RVW and Walton. I believe that if this work was allowed to have its head, it would truly rival both the Walton and, dare I say it the Elgar! It is one of the great British violin concertos. Concerto for Violin and Small Orchestra. Concerto for violin & orchestra. Peter racine fricker.
Peter Racine Fricker, Concerto For Violin And Small Orchestra - Yfrah Neaman. 3. Elizabeth Maconchy, Serenata Concertante For Violin And Orchestra - Yfrah Neaman. Indeed the Banks was commissioned by William Glock, denizen of the new, for the BBC Proms. Nevertheless all three pieces are very approachable, the Hoddinott in particular being a favourite of mine. The last CD in this set opens with David Morgan's Violin Concerto, another rarity which begins atmospherically as the soloist enters with a plaintive elegiac theme, Waltonian in manner and lyrical in expression.
