Khan's interest in color and ed lar evident on "Silent Screen," "Botero" and the album-closing "Mama Chóla"-had expanded even further with the introduction of a harmonizer, allowing Khan to layer harmonies over his primary guitar lines in real time, as he does during his solo on "Sisé.

This is an exception, however, as the presence of Dave Weckl makes for one of the best GRP releases of the '90s. Khan's sound is still a bit weak, but his compositions are strong, as is the amazing percussion of Manolo Badrena.

Steve Khan (born April 28, 1947) is an American jazz guitarist. According to Steve Khan, his father, lyricist Sammy Cahn, "loved to hear of any and all versions of his songs". Thus Khan grew up in a house with music. He took piano lessons as a child and played drums for the surf rock band the Chantays. The band's guitarist exposed him to the albums Tough Talk by the Crusaders and Movin' Wes by Wes Montgomery. In his late teens he quit the drums and started playing guitar.

Steve Khan is a bit of an enigma in jazz guitar circles, as he neither clearly succeeds nor fails in any of his efforts. This is an exception, however, as the presence of Dave Weckl makes for one of the best GRP releases of the '90s. A longtime collaborator with Khan, Badrena seems to have every type of percussion ever made and uses them all effectively. As soon as you start the CD you know you are in for a ride. I can only describe it as the feeling you would get walking through a dense rain forest - an undercurrent of beauty but you have no idea what to expect.
