Harlequin Melodies is the 1968 debut album by singer-songwriter Mickey Newbury. At the time, Newbury was making an impact as an incredible and successful songwriter in Nashville, signed by Acuff-Rose Publishing. In contrast to the subtle expressiveness of Newbury's prime work, Harlequin Melodies is overproduced and packed with often distracting instrumental touches, shifting tempos, and strange production effects. As a result of his dissatisfaction with the album and recording sessions, Newbury ended his RCA contract.

The Complete RCA Recordings comprises his 1968 debut album Harlequin Melodies plus four tracks added when the core was re-released in 1972 as Sings His Own, plus an extremely rare single b-side ('Organized Noise'). In customary fashion Raven has added seven bonus tracks, taken from the rare (and unissued on CD) 1985 MCA album Sweet Memories. Sadly Mickey passed away in September 2002 after a long illness and its criminal that his RCA catalogue has not seen the light of day on CD until its posthumous release on Raven Records out of Australia. But it is worth waiting for, his original versions of Just Dropped In (Kenny Rogers), Funny Familiar Forgotten Feelings (Don Gibson, Tom Jones) Sunshine (Ray Charles) Sweet Memories (Andy Williams, Everly Brothers et al) and many others plus some bonus tracks from his days @ Elekta.
