Taking to the stage with little in the way of fanfare, Winwood and his 4 fellow musicians, all casually dressed and avoiding any hint of the trappings of the ‘star’ lifestyle, waste no time in getting to the point of their set – to play the hits for us. Opening his set with The Spencer Davis Group’s ‘I’m a Man’ Winwood, sat behind his Hammond organ, seemed happy and excited to be in Glasgow for the opening night of the tour.

Stephen Lawrence Winwood (born 12 May 1948) is an English singer and musician whose genres include progressive rock, blue-eyed soul, rhythm and blues, blues rock, pop rock, and jazz. Though primarily a vocalist and keyboardist, Winwood also plays a wide variety of other instruments; on several of his solo albums he has played all instrumentation, including drums, mandolin, guitars, bass and saxophone.

As I was marveling at how great Steve Winwood looked for a man who surely must be in his mid-60's, considering that he was fronting The Spencer Davis Group way back in 1963, I quickly remembered that he was only 15 years old at the time. Talk about your musical prodigies. That would make him only 55 at the time of this performance. This is an excellent performance, with high quality sound and video. Winwood plays many of the best tracks from his days in the band Traffic, adding tracks from various solo albums. His band is excellent, with several tracks featuring the Latin rhythms he incorporated into his then-current "About Time" solo record. Winwood is in fine voice and shows off his instrumental virtuosity on organ, guitar (exceptionally good on Dear Mr. Fantasy) and mandolin. Highly recommended. This is sometimes shown on AXS cable TV.
