I tend to like Ralf Illenberger's music, and this latest album - his sixth solo outing since his Narade debut in the late 1980s - is no exception. His intricate guitar work slides easily between the new age and jazz genres, and by expanding the usual range of instruments a bit, he achieves what he set out to do with this album: to create a modern day long-form tone poem of sorts. The third track, "Symphonique," is especially alluring, with the guitar creating a delicately spiralling musical motif. It makes good background music, but the complexity of the arrangements also makes.

On THE KISS: FIVE WAVES OF BLISS, Illenberger delivers six tracks of calming, introspective music that is heavily steeped in the ambient tradition. Compositions like "Love Flow" and the gently pulsing "Beyond the Clouds" carry the listener along on calming streams of six-string beauty. On "Symphonique," Illenberger repeats a mesmerizing phrase while strings create an atmospheric canvas

Ralf Illenberger from Stuttgart and his partner Martin Kolbe from Herrenberg, were drawn in by the folk and guitar boom that was everywhere in the seventies. In 1977 they got together and developed their style with the first albums Waves and Colouring The Leaves : they conjured up huge, orchestral sounds, using dynamism and melodies rather than technical blending.
