This is one of three compilations assembled to commemorate the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the others being a classical collection (Harmony) and an all-Greek one (Phos). The idea for this pop album seems to have been to combine musicians from different countries and different musical styles, although in practice world pop music has become so homogeneous that much of this disc simply sounds like business as usual for the performers

The 2004 Olympic Games emblem is a wreath made from an olive tree branch, or kotinos. The emblem is a reference to the ancient Olympic Games, where the kotinos was the official award of Olympic champions. In addition, the olive was the sacred tree of Athens. The colours of the emblem symbolise the shades of white and blue found in the Greek countryside. The Official report of the XXVIII Olympiad: Athens 2004 was published by ATHOC in English and Greek. Based on the same model as for Sydney 2000, this official report consisted of a box set of two printed volumes (Homecoming of the Games - organisation and operations; The Games) and a multimedia set, which offered two bilingual CD-ROMs containing the results, and a DVD of the film Behind the scenes of the Athens 2004 Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

I was so excited about this CD: The title, artists involved and occasion all promised to bring me something extra special. Particularly after the last Olympic shows, which were so spectacular. I was left mostly bewildered. How could so much white bread come out of such richness was all I could think? It is almost as though all the reality and truth were blended out and what is left is chatty and upbeat.
