It’s definitely a violent and engaging listen that packs a punch, but the short running time means that little long term damage is caused. Sure, the final six tracks hit you with their anger and relentlessness, but the fact that they only last a combined total of seven minutes cushions the impact somewhat. As such, this record is better viewed as an EP rather than an album. Although the material on offer is of a good standard, this is unfortunate as it limits what can be achieved

Sacramento-spawned quartet Trash Talk has been steadily building a buzz in hardcore circles for a couple of years, and their third album is aimed at introducing them to an audience wider than any they’ve enjoyed before. But it, like countless collections before it, plays to conventions cast in iron almost 30 years ago.

Trash Talk - Eyes & Nines Album Lyrics. Trash Talk Lyrics provided by SongLyrics.

Trash Talk picks the album back up with the slamming Envy/More, with a dueling vocal onslaught between Spielman and Pollard. Rabbit Holes is more of the classic Trash Talk sound, pairing blasting drums with circle pit paces and a slow breakdown under a train whistle. The ending is pretty trippy compared to other tracks on the album, and gives it that extra punishing layer. Eyes And Nines are ferocious and finally break with the lyrics There’s no place for me anymore in the heavens and there’s no room in hell into a slow and driving drum part that leads to the end of the album. With their self-titled full-length, I was very unsettled about what the quality of this new album would be, but the gruff but polished production value of Eyes And Nines fits the songs perfectly and keeps the album listenable.
