The Complete On the Corner Sessions is a posthumous box set by American jazz musician Miles Davis, released in the US on September 25, 2007 by Columbia Records and in the UK on September 29 on Legacy Recordings. Like other Davis box sets, the included material is taken from a wider chronology of sessions than the dates which actually produced the titular album

What makes The Complete On the Corner Sessions the most compelling of these many deluxe box set issues is that the album derived from it remains the most controversial album Davis released. There are many others who still consider it the ultimate sellout by the biggest figure in the music at the time. Davis stripped everything back to endlessly repetitive, circular, and hypnotic rhythm based on the foundation of then 19-year-old bassist Henderson's minimal grooves with an array of percussionists along with a trap kit to shore it up like an impenetrable wall. The use of everything from cowbells and woodblocks to congas and tables enabled the musicians to dig deep into the territory of beat and rhythm.

How ahead of its time was the 1972 'On the Corner' album? After more than thirty years (at this writing) its influence is only beginning to be appreciated. These raw sessions put the achievement of the finished 'On the Corner' in a more positive light, not only illuminating an often maligned and misunderstood album, but also clarifying Davis' entire career trajectory post-'Bitches Brew'

On the Corner is a studio album by American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer Miles Davis. It was recorded in June and July 1972 and released on October 11 of the same year by Columbia Records. The album continued Davis's exploration of jazz fusion, bringing together funk rhythms with the influence of experimental composer Karlheinz Stockhausen and free jazz saxophonist Ornette Coleman.

Following the two June 1972 sessions, Davis moved the ensemble sound away from an insistence on a churning, full-speed-ahead jam on one chord. Over the next few years, orchestral colors are explored and there's room for chord changes and melodies. Perhaps it's quibbling, but I'm more comfortable with distinguishing each of the original LPs as distinct periods, or moments, in Davis' continuous evolution. While each tune on The Complete On The Corner Sessions is a continual revelation, not all are completely successful as refined artistic statements. It's the nature of the improv business. On "Jobali," for example, Michael Henderson lays down a riff, the sort of structure he's used before and will use again, but here it's just not as interesting and feels unrelenting and insistent rather than a skeletal form onto which a composition may develop and unwind.

The album On The Corner was completed by other sessions that Teo Macero put into shape, and it would become a cult album for the avant-garde of ambient and electro-jazz.
