The title and gauzy graphics of Love and Longing, a release by South Korean pianist Yoonie Han, actually make the album sound a bit more crossover-oriented and less specific than it really is: it is actually a carefully chosen collection of piano pieces favored by the virtuosos of yore, most of them arrangements of songs or operatic selections. The largest group consists of arrangements of Schubert songs by Franz Liszt, pieces that would have been familiar indeed to European concertgoers of the middle 19th century, but that lately have been regarded with some distaste

Only 1 left in stock (more on the way). Yoonjung "Yoonie" Han has built an impressive resume - degrees from Juilliard and Curtis, a doctorate in progress at SUNY Stony Brook, and several competition appearances including an appearance at the Van Cliburn. The 29-year-old Korean pianist signed with Steinway in 2012 and with this release, has free reign to present her ideas across a full album.

Her album Love and Longing on the Steinway & Sons label was Album of the week on WQXR. Her second album with Steinway & Sons, Goyescas, was released in 2017 to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the composer, Enrique Granados. Your new album Love and Longing includes music you’ve favored at concerts for some time. Tell us a little about what some of this music means to you as a musician – and does it mean something personally to you too? During my career as a concert pianist, nothing so far has compared with the excitement of holding the copy of my first CD, Love and Longing. And for anyone who wasn’t there to hear it, it’s as if it hadn’t happened. But the CD is music in tangible form. Her upcoming concerts include a Steinway dealerships tour this fall and winter, the Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago in December, and trio residencies at the University of Georgia, University of Florida, and Shorter University in October.
