The Musik in Deutschland 1950-2000 series was produced by the Deutscher Musikrat, the German Music Council, and funded by the German Federal Commissioners for Culture and Media. It was issued by RCA. Clearly the intended audience was German, as the superb liner notes are in German only, and equally clear is that one purpose of the government-funded initiative was to create an integrated document of the music of West and East Germany following reunification.
