Continuing their 60th anniversary of Savoy, Savoy Jazz has released a double CD overview of the label. While still having a catalogue of great jazz recordings that stand the test of time, Savoy has other reasons to be proud on its 60th birthday. They are the only label that can claim that they recorded first as bandleaders such legendary figures as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Fats Navarro and . It would have been nice (both musically and as a marketing strategy for that album) to include a track from Norvo. Other than that, everything else is just the way you would want your Savoy collection to appear. This collection is yet another home run (though two run homer) from the Savoy re-issue anniversary celebration. Track Listing: Disk One Charlie Parker. Title: Savoy - 60th Anniversary - Timeless Year Released: 2002 Record Label: Savoy Jazz.

Savoy 60th Anniversary: Timeless. Savoy Jazz marks its 60th anniversary with this double-disc compilation of the early pioneers of bebop. This classic collection features some of the first recordings by such bebop masters as Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Miles Davis, and Stan Getz, among others, playing their classic repertoire of the '40s and '50s. These 32 compositions are also among those that helped to establish and solidify this newly introduced style of jazz in the hearts and souls of many swing and big-band followers around the globe, despite the early thumbs-down given by jazz purists of that decade.
