Betty Everett (November 23, 1939 – August 19, 2001) was an American soul singer and pianist, best known for her biggest hit single, the million-selling "Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)", and her duet "Let It Be Me" with Jerry Butler, in which Jerry sings "without your sweet love, Betty, what would life be?". Everett began playing the piano and singing gospel music in church at the age of nine. She moved to Chicago in 1957 to pursue a career in secular music.
Betty Everett sang gospel growing up in Greenwood, MS, before relocating to Chicago and moving into secular music. About The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss). The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s In His Kiss) was originally recorded by Merry Clayton in 1963. Clayton’s version did not chart. Betty Everett’s version hit on the R&B charts in 1964. The song was a hit again in 1990 when Cher covered it for the soundtrack to the movie, Mermaids, which Cher starred in. Everett’s version was used in Season 3, episode 12 of the cartoon Tiny Toon Adventures entitled Toon TV.
