This double LP was the first jazz concert ever recorded at the Hollywood Bowl (and only the second one held at that . Although not an official Jazz at the Philharmonic concert, it has the same basic format and was also produced by Norman Granz. Trumpeters Roy Eldridge and Harry "Sweets" Edison, tenors Flip Phillips and Illinois Jacquet, the Oscar Peterson Trio and drummer Buddy Rich all jam on "Honeysuckle Rose" and "Jumpin' at the Woodside" and there is also a ballad medley and a drum solo by Rich.

Although not an official Jazz at the Philharmonic concert, it has the same basic format and was also produced by Norman Granz. Granz compiled excerpts from the performances for a two-LP Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl album released on his Verve label in 1958. Necessarily, he resequenced some of the material to fit on the four sides of the discs, and Armstrong's set was left out.

Part of Jazz at the Bowl 2 (JZ2) Series. The legendary hip-hop crew The Roots celebrate the 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking album Things Fall Apart, whose revolutionary blend of live instrumentation, classic hip-hop sampling, and thought-provoking wordplay make it one of the most influential albums in rap history. With the help of special guests, the Philadelphia group will perform the album in its entirety. The wildly versatile bassist Christian McBride opens with his Grammy-winning 21st-century big band for a set of tight, swinging jazz.
