The Grateful Dead is the debut album of the Grateful Dead. It was released by Warner Bros. Records in March 1967. According to the biographies of both bassist Phil Lesh and drummer Bill Kreutzmann, the band released the album as San Francisco's Grateful Dead. The album was primarily recorded at RCA's Studio A, in Los Angeles, in only four days. The band had wanted to record the tracks in their hometown of San Francisco, but no recording studios in the area had modernized equipment at the time

Although published without a title, it is generally known by the names Skull and Roses (due to its iconic cover art) and Skull Fuck (the name the band originally wanted to give to the album, which was rejected by the record company).
Grateful Dead - Aoxomoxoa Expanded 6/7Audio CD. The original album has always sounded and felt rushed, as if the band might be recording "on something" (they were), but the song choices opened up a different world to the young "1967 me" to different genres of music. Remember, this was before the internet or any steady stream of publications dedicated to rock music-you were kind of on your own back then-("Grateful Dead? What kind of name is that for a band?"). Dissecting the original album is pretty useless if you're reading this because no doubt you're familiar with it already.

It's a lot to consider, so to celebrate the late great Jerry Garcia's birthday (Aug. 1), we decided to narrow it down to this list of the Top 10 Grateful Dead Albums . Two years after Bob Dylan and The Grateful Dead teamed up for a stadium tour in 1987, this live album, 'Dylan And The Dead' was released, collecting performances from the tour.
