Down to the Bone is an acid jazz group led by British DJ Stuart Wade, who formed the band in 1996 with Chris Morgans (who has now left). The group is very popular in the UK, where it is "hailed as the kings of UK jazz groove. The band's music is a mix of funk and jazz. As of 2014 there are two sets of Personnel for the band – a US band and a UK band. Stuart Wade, the band's leader, does not play any instruments. He hums into a dictaphone. Rufus Philpot – Bass and MD/band leader.

The result was the Down To The Bone remix of the track ‘Joy Is Free’ which had great success. Following on from the success of his remix he teamed up with Think Twice keyboard player, Simon Greenaway, to put together a string of songs. This resulted in the first release on a 12 single of Staten Island Groove. Released on Internal Bass Records, a label Wade set up with another member of Think Twice. After the completion of From Manhattan To Staten, a title Wade came up with to show his influences from across the pond, it was decided to try to take the whole sound over to America to see what would happen. Not expecting anything, Wade was astounded by the huge response after two important guys at . Jazz radio, Blake Lawrence and Steve.
Their first album as Down to the Bone, 1997's From Manhattan to Staten, did predictably well around their base in Chobham, Surrey, but also transferred to American smooth jazz charts. Their second album, The Urban Grooves, featured a track recorded with one of Wade and Morgans' original inspirations, organist Reuben Wilson, and topped jazz charts in America after its 1998 release date. Spread the Word: Album III followed in early 2001, with Crazy Vibes and Things coming the next year. The label celebrated the band's ten years in the game by issuing the greatest-hits album The Best of Down to the Bone in early 2007. The groups tenth album, The Main Ingredients, released in 2011, found Down to the Bone taking their signature funk and groove sound to the Trippin 'N' Rhythm label.
Of the albums Down to the Bone, Guilty Pleasures and Rehab, I think think this one is the best. Forget the one-star guy, this album rocks. I wish QR had kept this style and developed it, instead of falling into formulae, like in their final album: Rehab. 3 people found this helpful.
