In 'n Out is the third album by jazz saxophonist Joe Henderson released on the Blue Note label. It was recorded on April 10, 1964 and features performances by Henderson with Kenny Dorham, McCoy Tyner, Richard Davis and Elvin Jones. the music still seems fresh after three decades"

I'm interested in finding out how much a quant can actually make nowadays. Obviously you can throw out names like David Shaw and Ken Griffin who made billions from their hedgefunds, but they got started awhile ago when quant finance was still up and coming. Are the talented quants nowadays just destined to make the six figure salary until they've worked 10+ years at the same hedgefund and maybe start getting a 1 or 2 million dollar bonus. It seems to me the only way to be making 8 or more figures a year in quant finance is to be a hedgefund founder and manager.

Quant Developer - The "quant dev" is a programmer at heart. The role is extremely varied and recruiters tend to "pad out" more traditional IT roles with the word "quant", when there is really very little quantitative work in such roles. The true quant developer will likely be in the more senior end of the "middle office" of an investment bank or even in the "front office" (. close to the money!). Simply put, many quant roles require a substantial grounding in mathematics and mathematical modelling. Unfortunately, if you wish to work in a quantitative role, then there is no getting around having to learn some hard mathematics! A good mathematical degree, with strong options choices, will cover all of the areas needed by a practising quant.

Quant funds are having tough time. Photograph: Bloomberg. If you believe the long-term, broad-based and out-of-sample evidence for factor investing - and are willing to accept risks associated with leverage and high turnover, plus higher-than-index fees - nothing that has happened in 2018 should change your mind. If you never liked factors in the first place, well, low-cost, well-diversified, tax-efficient, unlevered index funds have always been sound choices; and there are plenty of other quant and non-quant approaches. Excess return means the return on the asset minus what you could earn on low-risk assets like Treasury bills.
