A polemic (/pəˈlɛmɪk/) is contentious rhetoric that is intended to support a specific position by aggressive claims and undermining of the opposing position. Polemics are mostly seen in arguments about controversial topics. The practice of such argumentation is called polemics. A person who often writes polemics, or who speaks polemically, is called a polemicist. The word is derived from Ancient Greek πολεμικός (polemikos), meaning 'warlike, hostile', from πόλεμος (polemos), meaning 'war'.

The Hole is the eighteenth studio album by the Dutch hard rock band Golden Earring, released in 1986. The band gave a free promotion concert in support of the album on the beach of Scheveningen for an audience of 185,000. Anton Corbijn made a video clip for the single "Quiet Eyes". It was made in the same black and white style as the photographs he made for the inner sleeve of the album. All songs written by Barry Hay and George Kooymans except where noted.

Polemic vs. polemical. Polemic is a noun referring to a controversial argument hostilely refuting a specific belief or opinion. Polemical is an adjective meaning of or relating to controversy, refutation, or hostile argument. The words were variants of each other when they came to English from the French polémique (both around the early 17th century), but they have differentiated over time. A person who writes a polemic is a polemicist, though polemist appears occasionally. The words’ corresponding adverb is polemically.
