Using the textured sonics of The Unforgettable Fire as a basis, U2 expanded those innovations by scaling back the songs to a personal setting and adding a grittier attack for its follow-up, The Joshua Tree. It's a move that returns them to the sweeping, anthemic rock of War, but if War was an exploding political bomb, The Joshua Tree is a journey through its aftermath, trying to find sense and hope in the desperation.

The Joshua Tree entered the US album charts at N. and reached No. 1 three weeks later. It was U2's first album to reach N. in the United States. In 1999, The Joshua Tree was awarded the RIAA's highest certification, Diamond, with 10 million units sold. The album also peaked at N. on the UK, Canadian, West German, Dutch and Australian charts. In Switzerland, the album reached N. on the charts and stayed there for a total of 33 weeks. The album and sleeve cover also placed No. 1 in Rolling Stone magazine's annual Music Awards chosen by readers

U2, The Joshua Tree (MFSL UDCD 650). For those who love multi-channel audio - there are DVD-Audio and Audio-DVD formats which can be split into many channels with frequency sampling from 24-bit to 192 kHz. For stereo with high bitrate we recommend Vinyl-Rip collection where the music is digitized from vinyl records with a unique warmth and crackles from the LP. flacmusic.

Format: DVDVerified Purchase. This is a DVD which is certainly not for the average U2 fan. First of all, you won't find any live footage or music videos from the album (except for The Sweetest Thing, but although the song was written back in '87, the video wasn't released till '98). I was afraid that this was going to be a collection of videos from the "Joshua Tree" album, with perhaps some stock footage thrown in to make it look like a documentary. I was pleasantly surprised. The producers sat down recently (probably while making the new U2 album) with U2, Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Flood and discussed in detail all that went into making this album.
