Raise Up is Petey Pablo’s first single, released in 2001 after Petey was released from prison and went to New York City, where he gained connections within the world of rap. The hook is played by the UNC Tar Heels' marching band when the defense makes a successful third down stop during football games.

Moses Barrett III (born July 22, 1973), known by the stage name Petey Pablo, is an American rapper from Snow Hill, North Carolina. Born in Greenville, North Carolina, Barrett spent five years in prison for a 1993 armed robbery and upon his release moved to New York City, where he met Black Rob and Busta Rhymes, and, according to rumor, was signed to Jive Records after the A&R director overheard him rapping in a club bathroom.

Southern hip-hop artist Petey Pablo reps his native North Carolina on this Timbaland-produced track. The song was released in August 2001 as the lead single from his debut album Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry. Pablo felt uncomfortable when he first received the music for this song from Timbaland. He explained to Billboard magazine: "It didn't sound like a Timbaland beat at the time.
