Flora Purim's album from 2001, Perpetual Emotion, was her best since her '70s heyday. But who knew she was just warming up? If that record is reminiscent of her early '70s jazz output on Fantasy Records, this one has echoes of her more expansive Warner Bros.

Iconic singer Flora Purim says this album could have been titled The Two of Us, in honor of her long-lasting friendship and musical relationship with Brazilian singer/songwriter Milton Nascimento. That notion comes to beautiful fruition in the tasteful "Nós Dois," arranged for piano trio (that's piano maven George Duke sitting in on keyboards) with Purim's throaty vocals playing above. Overall, the sound here is lush and richly textured, with Purim using sparse musical backing, which, of course, includes Luiz Avellar's piano
