Ben Webster: In Norway by Chris Mosey, published on September 10, 2013. Ben Webster refused to fly. When he visited Norway from Denmark, his adopted homeland, he went by boat and when he got there would blame his somewhat uncertain gait on his "sea legs," rather than the large amounts of alcohol he had consumed in the vessel's bar. Sometimes his "sea legs" were so bad, initial concerts had to be rescheduled.

Born March 27, 1909 in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Died September 20, 1973 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Also known as "The Brute" or "Frog". He was an influential American jazz tenor saxophonist.

Benjamin Francis Webster (March 27, 1909 – September 20, 1973) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. He is considered one of the three most important "swing tenors" along with Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young. Known affectionately as "The Brute" or "Frog", he had a tough, raspy, and brutal tone on stomps (with growls), yet on ballads he played with warmth and sentiment. He was indebted to alto saxophonist Johnny Hodges, who, he said, taught him to play his instrument.

In March 1970 Ben Webster was invited to Trondheim in Norway to play five concerts in three days, all sold out. The concert on March 17 was recorded, not by a record company but by private people. Tore Sandnæs was the pianist in the session. Ben liked him because he was inspired by Oscar Peterson. Bjørn Alterhaug (b) and Kjell Johansen (dr) were two local musicians. He was very satisfied with the trio
