Under Soil and Dirt is The Story So Far’s debut studio album, as well as their debut with Pure Noise Records. It was released on June 21, 2011 and contains two singles: Roam and Quicksand. The album scored a spot on Rock Sound’s 51 Most Essential Pop-Punk Albums of All Time. Speaking on the album’s title, lead vocalist Parker Cannon told LA Music Blog: The name for the record came from the things I wrote about on that record, which were obviously a girl, growing up, and moving away from home and leaving my friends

Under Soil & Dirt’ is the debut full-length release by The Story So Far, a five-piece pop-punk band from Walnut Creek, California. The tone for the album is set beautifully by 0:51 second long opening track ‘States And Minds’, an instantly infectious guitar riff rings out, before lead singer Parker Cannon bellows ‘I’m falling in and out again’ as the song leads into ‘Roam’, probably the catchiest riff on the album and a powerful chorus later you’re hooked.

A great modern pop punk/alternative rock album that will please any fan of the genre. Instrumentally the band is technically sound, with inventive rhythms and some incredible rolling drum patterns which give the songs energy and abandon. Parker Cannon's lyrics and singing are some of the best in the genre, with touching themes and some soaring melodies. The songs can get repetitive over time, but this is to be expected and to the album's credit it does many different things with the same old sound. Overall an album which revitalizes the genre, and brings it kicking and screaming into the new era; worth every penny. Top tracks: Roam, Quicksand, Daughters, Mt. Diablo, Closure.
