Togor
Just a powerhouse of an album featuring two absolute legends (harp player and singer Junior Wells and guitarist Buddy Guy) back when they were still promising young talents. The title track deserves inclusion among any list or compilation of the essential blues songs in the genre's very long history. From there, Wells and Guy and their band proceed through one classic after another. Wells's harp playing and Guy's hypnotic guitar work establish them among the elites to ever pick up their instruments, even if neither man had ever made another record. Meanwhile, the rhythm section brings a soulful funkiness worthy of James Brown's band in the same period. The album Hoodoo Man Blues proved that, amid Motown, Stax, and the British Invasion, good old fashioned Chicago blues could still be more than relevant.
