Nash worked with producer Brendan Benson, in the creation of this album. She released the project on September 18, 2015. According to Billboard. com (07/10/2015), Leigh said: I’m from South Texas in the hill country, south of Austin, The music I heard growing up has stayed with me in a way that no other.
Nash co-wrote all 12 of the album's songs and called it her own version of the music she grew up on "with an emphasis on hooks and melodies and heartbroken lyrics. The co-writing was something fairly new to Nash on this project, changing her writing style in the process. She said she wound up finding a few musical partners from the beginning and couldn't be happier with how things turned out. "They met me exactly where my head was at as far as the kind of record I wanted to make," she said. Today, Billboard brings you an exclusive listen to the The State I'm In's title track, which Nash said takes her back home. There is a recurring theme on this album of being homesick," she said. I'm always missing Texas and feeling torn between the home I came from and the one I've built in Tennessee. So in that way, 'The State I'm In' seemed like an appropriate title track. It covers a lot of ground.

If The State I m In sounds like a country album, though, it s a wide-ranging, left-of-center country album, with songs that tip their hat to the past while still moving forward toward something new. Looking for a fellow rule-breaker who wouldn t mind pushing the envelope, Nash turned to Grammy-nominated musician Brendan Benson, who co-wrote one of the songs and produced the entire record. Alternately loose and lush, The State I m In feels like a reintroduction to an artist who s never really gone away, with Nash finding new life in older sounds. The State I'm In" (12 tracks; 39 mi. is a significant departure from anything else Leigh Nash has done before, either within Sixpence or as a solo artist. Let's just call a spade a spade. The State I'm In" is a country album, pure and simple. Check out "Cruel Heart", which sounds like it came from the 1950s, featuring a slide guitar upfront.
This is my very first ever PledgeMusic campaign! So welcome to you and welcome to me! I’ve hinted subtly and lately, not so subtly, that I’ve started a brand new record. Sixpence fans, this will be all me, but I hope you’ll love it anyway. As many of you know, I spent much of my life singing in a band called Sixpence None the Richer. In the last 10 years my son was born, my father died, my marriage failed, I learned how to be all kinds of great things I never thought I could; Practicing grace, forgiveness and as close as I can get to unconditional love on a daily basis . You’ll receive one of the charts used during the recording of the new album in Nashville. The chart, showing the Nashville number system, will also be signed by Leigh. Please not: Chart will be chosen randomly.
