And although Shawn Camp and Billy Burnette, both of whom have been kicking around the country scene for decades (Burnette's dad, incidentally, was the country/rockabilly hitmaker Dorsey Burnette), omit that particular song from their set list, they otherwise choose judiciously. Camp and Burnette are no strangers, having written dozens of songs together and performed on each other's recordings. Using standard bluegrass instrumentation, Camp and Burnette open with a brief but cute take on "Also Sprach Zarathustra," better known as the signature piece from 2001: A Space Odyssey, which Elvis used to open his concerts in the '70s.
Billy Burnette made his first recording when he was seven, appearing with Ricky Nelson on the song "Hey Daddy (I'm Gonna Tell Santa On You)" (Dot, 1960). He toured with Brenda Lee while teaching himself to play guitar. After graduating from high school in 1969, his father took him to Memphis to meet record producer Chips Moman, who had recently finished recording Elvis's songs "Suspicious Minds" and "In the Ghetto". The Bluegrass Elvises, Volume 1 (American Roots, 2007) (with Shawn Camp). Rock & Roll With It (Rock & Roll With It, 2011). Bikers' Choice, Vol. 1, Steel Cowboys (Intersound, 1999). Dressed in Black: A Tribute to Johnny Cash (Dualtone, 2002). In the Meantime, Christine McVie (Koch, 2004).
These days, album-length bluegrass spins on pop-rock music are seemingly ground out on an assembly line, and too often gimmickry trumps substance. That doesn't necessarily invalidate the idea, however if you want a good time, pick up THE BLUEGRASS ELVISES, VOL . .providing them here would have only helped to remind everyone just how strong and timeless these songs really are).

Billy Burnette is the epitome of a rock star – he exudes talent, good looks, and the rock star aura wherever he goes and understandably so, given his journey as a musician, singer, songwriter, guitarist. Born in Memphis, itarist, Dorsey William Burnette III (aka Billy Burnette) s pent most of his youth in the presence of father Dorsey and uncle Johnny (of the legendary Rock and Roll Trio). The Trio made the Rockabilly name famous by combining the name Billy and his cousin Rocky for the 1953 Rockabilly Boogie – thus making the term Rockabilly a household name. In 2007, Billy collaborated with Shawn Camp on the album Bluegrass Elvises Vol. 1, which rose to the Top 5 on the Americana charts. A collaboration with Shawn Camp and Dennis Morgan became the hit song River of Love.

That month, Reprise released Camp's first album, Shawn Camp, which spent several weeks in the country charts. A second single, "Confessin' My Love," peaked in the country Top 40 in January 1994. This set was followed by Live at the Station Inn in 2004, Fireball in 2006, and The Bluegrass Elvises, Vol. 1 with Billy Burnette in 2007. In 2009, Warner Music Nashville President/CEO John Esposito caught Camp at a guitar pull during a music conference and was knocked out. Discovering that Warner had Camp's unreleased second album in its vaults, he had the label release the album in 2010 (now entitled 1994), to coincide with a reissue of his 1993 debut for Reprise.
