Have You Heard of Harry "Sweets" Edison, Vol. 2. Harry "Sweets" Edison. Jazz, Blues & Rock Roots Experience - 250 Original Tracks. Jusa Bit 'O' Blues - Volume I. 'Spike' Robinson, 'Sweets' Edison Quintet. Jazz At The Santa Monica Civic, '72.
On the first of two CDs, tenor saxophonist Spike Robinson teams up with trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison, pianist Ross Tompkins, bassist Monty Budwig and drummer Paul Humphrey. It is not too surprising that Robinson (whose tone often recalls Zoot Sims) works well with swing legend Edison. Although the title piece is a blues, the repertoire is primarily comprised of swing standards, with some heat generated on such tunes as "The One I Love," "Autumn Leaves" and "Slow Boat to China.

Personnel: Harry "Sweets" Edison - Trumpet. Jimmy Forrest - Tenor sax (tracks 1-13, 20, 22, 23). Tommy Flanagan - Piano (tracks 1-12). The first 12 tracks come from Patented by Edison, recorded in 1960, and the last 12 are from Sweetenings, recorded two years earlier. Despite the differing personnels on each album, the format is basically the same: mainly short tracks featuring Harry Edison himself, with the other players somewhat in the background. The results might threaten to be samey, except that Edison is always worth hearing, with his judicious choice of notes and his soft, unassertive tone.
