The Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album was awarded from 1987 to 2011. Until 1993 the award was known as the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Recording. An award for Best Contemporary Folk Album was also presented. Prior to 1987 contemporary and traditional folk were combined as the Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording. The award was discontinued in a major overhaul of Grammy categories.

Beginning in 1977, renowned folklorist Art Rosenbaum traveled around northern Georgia making field recordings of songs learned from the oral tradition. The outcome was a two-volume anthology and a book by the same title. The first half of Volume 1 features "early mountain songs, ballads and tunes" ranging from ancient British ballads to more recent breakdowns and love songs. The second half presents "black religious singing" (traditional spirituals), some of which are recorded in a local church.

Information about folk, traditional music for Belgium and list of songs and artists and related information! . Today there are many folk bands in Belgium who use traditional music as their root music and mix it with other musical genres. Some Belgian traditional musical instruments are doedelzak, muchosa, pipasso, Schäferpfeife. All four are different types of bagipipe. Vièrlerète or tiesse di dj'va (horse head) which is a stringed instrument that produces sound by a crank-turned, rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to those of a violin.
