Tim Finn on the mood of, The View Is Worth The Climb, Auckland 2011. Tim Finn stands barefoot at the studio microphone. There’s a music stand within arm’s reach and a holy picture sits next to a lyric sheet. The studio is littered with old analogue gear and reels of fresh tape. Producer Jacquire King looks at Finn from behind a high-tech console as the band adjust their volume. The singer takes a deep breath, looks back at the producer and smiles. Then the magic begins. For Finn, the magic has been happening over a long period: across generations, beyond horizons and around the world. After Jacquire and I made contact, was out there in the distance, but almost a year went by before we finally got together, so I had a lot of time to write and also somebody to bounce off. I would send demos out and it became quite a nice organic process, which I’ve never really had.

Brian Timothy "Tim" Finn (born 25 June 1952) is a New Zealand singer and musician. His musical career includes forming 1970s and 1980s New Zealand rock group Split Enz, a number of solo albums, temporary membership in his brother Neil's band Crowded House and joint efforts with Neil Finn as the Finn Brothers. 2000 also saw the release of album Together in Concert: Live, featuring Finn, and fellow New Zealand singer/songwriters Bic Runga, and Dave Dobbyn. Recorded in August and September 2000 in venues around New Zealand, the album saw the three performers each equitably showcased. Both the concerts and album feature all three performers providing vocal and instrumental backing on each other's songs. The album spent 16 weeks in the New Zealand charts, and was finally released in the UK in May 2007. ABC Music/Universal Music.

Tim Finn - Primary Artist

From such an esteemed purveyor of quirky, effervescent pop melodies, this most recent solo effort from Tim Finn seems almost deliberately understated in its approach. It is a competent record but stripped of Finn's artsy idiosyncrasies and humor, it's as if the songwriter is trying to sound as conventional as possible.
