The Concerto for Violin and String Orchestra in D minor was composed by Felix Mendelssohn at the age of thirteen. It has three movements, Allegro–Andante–Allegro, and performance duration is approximately 22 minutes. Mendelssohn was considered by many of his time to be a prodigy comparable only to the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Besides being a brilliant piano virtuoso, his composition took a firm step forward in musical development.

Mendelssohn: Concerto in D Minor for Violin, Piano and Strings. MWV D4 - 1. Allegro by Gidon Kremer and Martha Argerich and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. 2. Mendelssohn: Concerto in D Minor for Violin, Piano and Strings. by Gidon Kremer and Martha Argerich and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. MWV D4 - 2. Adagio by Gidon Kremer and Martha Argerich and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Marvelous concerto for viola piano and string orchestra, beautiful execution by Argerich and Kremer, musical, balanced, right tempi. One point of critisism is the recording quality of the orchestral violin parts, which seem harsh at times (you can hear it in the listen examples).
