With Ringo, Ringo Starr finally put his solo career in gear in 1973, after serving notice with back-to-back Top Ten singles in 1971 and 1972 that he had more to offer than his eccentric first two solo albums. Ringo was a big-budget pop album produced by Richard Perry and featuring Ringo's former Beatles bandmates as songwriters, singers, and instrumentalists. On no single track did all four appear, though George Harrison played the guitars on the John Lennon-penned leadoff track "I'm the Greatest," with Lennon playing piano and singing harmony

Ringo released his eponymous smash hit album in 1973. It yielded three Top 10 singles, including the hits Photograph and You’re Sixteen (You’re Beautiful And You’re Mine). The album Ringo also marked the first time since The Beatles’ break-up that all 4 band members participated in the same project (though not at the same time). The 1970’s also saw Ringo expand on his film career, which began in the 1960’s with The Beatles films, Hard Days Night in 1964, Help! In1965 followed by Magical Mystery Tour in 1967. In 1989 Ringo assembled his first All Starr Band and he found consistent success as a live act with his revolving All Starrs. I got asked if I’d be interested in putting a band together, Ringo would later recount. I had been thinking the same thing, and so I went through my phone book, rang up a few friends and asked them if they’d like to have fun in the summer.

Ringo Starr's third studio album was released in 1973 on Apple Records. Starr's first two albums, Sentimental Journey and Beaucoups Of Blues, were both released in 1970. Although he scored subsequent hit singles with It Don't Come Easy and Back Off Boogaloo, he chose to focus on acting. However, in 1973 he returned to music, enlisting producer Richard Perry and a range of guest composers and performers. Ringo is most notable for featuring all four former Beatles, although not all on any single song.

Ringo makes a "Beatles" album! There's not a weak song in the bunch. There are guest appearances from all 3 other Beatles & a "Pepper" tribute lp cover, but the triumph is all Ringo. No other Ringo lp has the song selection & fun that this record has. The vinyl also has a lavish 12x12 20 page booklet of illustrated lyrics.
