Recordings: Paris, Théâtre Mogador, March 2005 (Live) (Symphony No. 3), Conservatoire de Paris, July 2005 (Le Festin de L'Araignée).

Conductor: Eschenbach, Christoph. This Albert Roussel album couples the Third Symphony with one of the composer’s most popular pieces, the complete music for the one-act pantomime ballet Le Festin de l’araignée. This recording completes a cycle of three releases featuring the four symphonies and two ballets by the French composer, performed by the Orchestre de Paris under music director Christoph Eschenbach. The Third Symphony, which was given its world première in Boston in 1930, is a true masterpiece and remains the most popular of Roussel’s symphonic works

Roussel: Symphony No. 3, Le Festin de l'araignée (The Spider's Feast) ~ Eschenbach. 1 (Le Poeme de la foret) is a lovely Impressionist piece in four movements of 35 minutes length, clearly influenced by Debussy as well as Roussel's teacher Vincent d'Indy. A portrait of the forest's moods through winter, spring, summer and fall, it utilizes classical forms - sonata form for the second movement, a ternary adagio for the third movement, and a rondo finale. 2 was written in 1919 and is darker in tone, reflecting Roussel's wartime experience
