After leaving Woody Herman's Orchestra, tenor saxophonist Stan Getz became one of the leaders of the "cool school" due to his attractive light tone and his strong jazz abilities. This CD features his 1950-1951 quartets. On the first seven selections, Getz is accompanied by pianist Al Haig, bassist Tommy Potter, and drummer Roy Haynes; they play such numbers as "On the Alamo," "Yesterdays," and the appealing "Hershey Ba. By late 1950 Getz had a new band, a rhythm section that he had discovered and immediately hired in Connecticut.
