Oren Bloedow (born July 3, 1965 in New York City) is an American singer, guitarist, and composer. He founded the band Elysian Fields in 1995 with Jennifer Charles. Oren's first serious musical affiliations were with Phillip Johnston, Bobby Previte and Wayne Horvitz, all of whom worked with him in Bobby Radcliff's blues band in the 1980s. With Radcliff, Oren backed up Dr. John, Otis. Luckiest Boy in the World 1998. La Mar Enfortuna 2001, Tzadik Records. She Goes with me to a blossom World 2011, Noosphere.

Oren Bloedow first gained renown in the New York downtown music scene as the bassist for John Lurie's Lounge Lizards and as a member of Samm Bennett's Chunk. A highly musical, understated bass player, Bloedow was an essential member of the early-90s Lounge Lizards, which had evolved from a post-punk non-jazz prank into a cohesive band carefully chosen by Lurie as an outlet for his rich musical vision. In 1998 Bloedow released his second solo album, The Luckiest Boy in the World, on which the popular organ trio Medeski, Martin and Wood served as his backing band. Mar Enfortuna followed three years later.

Bloedow seems joined to his material at the hip. You cant imagine these songs the sad/funny love song "In the Clinch," the familial dyfunction- themed "Do I Have to Take You Outside?"-being performed by anyone but him. With a vocal style thats both sure and frail, Bloedow builds mini-shrines to emotional glitches, as if hes trying to create coping mechanisms for his own emotions on the spot. By employing some of the brightest of the New York City downtown improv crowd-Medeski Martin & Wood, Dave Tronzo-Bloedow honors the time-honored.
