Progressive Metal Azure Agony. Band Name Azure Agony. Album Name Beyond Belief. Labels SG Records Self-Produced.

Album (Studio full-length). Beyond Belief Information. Track listing (Songs).

Beyond Belief, the debut album by obscure Italian band Azure Agony, is the best example I’ve heard recently of how diverse the genre of Progressive Metal is. It encompasses a wide range of musical styles, from frantic and heavy to light and symphonic. I guarantee that you won’t ever be bored listening to the album, as the music is varied enough to stay fresh throughout its entirety. Azure Agony’s musical style can be split into two distinct categories: metallic and melodic. Each is present in every song, and each song switches fairly frequently between the two. It’s not uncommon for any song to dive suddenly from a light piano melody into a heavy guitar riff. Unfortunately, while the wide range of genres is one of the album’s best qualities, it also acts as its largest flaw. The biggest problem I have with Beyond Belief is that the transitions simply don’t work very well.

Azure Agony, this unknown italian progressive metal band started in 2006 and released their debut in 2010 named Beyond belief. This is an etirely instrumental album and a quite good one from start to finish. The music doesn't differ much from Dream Theater school, with keyboards and guitars running all the time and some fine druming aswell. The music is from up tempo to slow, but always Azure Agony done a good job, they shifting from mellow parts to up tempo with an amazing ease, always capture the attention of the listner.

Azure Agony is already the third SG Records signed instrumental outfit I get on my plate. And it looks like I'm getting less and less enthusiastic over this dish. While in theory there's nothing wrong with instrumental music, subpar executed instrumental music however means a real malady for the genre. And that's the major issue here. And that's exactly why Azure Agony cannot really tickle my fancy.

Azure Agony was started in 2006 by an idea of Marco Sgubin, keyboard player eoni on drums joined him. This line-up wrote and recorded the 9 songs of the first album, entitled Beyond Belief. They decided to avoid having a voice and be instrumental since they didn't find a suitable singer capable of accepting the challenge of their music (a very wide blend of prog, metal, pop and other influences). In 2009, they were contacted by SG Records and signed with them. SG gave to the band a very good visibility.
