Eugen d'Albert Die Abreise Musical Comedy in One Act Gilfen - Hermann Prey, Bariton Luise, his wife - Edda Moser Soprano Trott - Peter Schreier, Tenor Philharmonia Hungarica Janos Kulka Conductor "Die Abreise" ("The Departure") by Eugen d'Albert (1864-1932) is a little one-act operatic comedy. Philharmonia Hungarica Janos Kulka Conductor. Die Abreise" ("The Departure") by Eugen d'Albert (1864-1932) is a little one-act operatic comedy for soprano, tenor, and baritone. The story, about a husband who is suspicious (with some good reason) that his wife is being wooed by one of his best friends, ends happily and sweetly, with renewed love between husband and wife. As opera it certainly doesn't aim very high, and this is part of its charm. The music is quite melodic, with, in truth, little that is especially memorable.
Eugen d'Albert: Die Abreise. Janos Kulka, Edda Moser, Hermann Prey, Peter Schreier. 2. Prelude - Scenes 1-20.
The cosmopolitan Eugen d’Albert (1864-1932) was in his day regarded as the pianistic successor to Liszt. But his main long-term claim to fame was the bringing of Italian verismo into German opera. Tiefland (Lowland) of 1903 is his most successful work, a tawdry tale of lust and jealousy set at the foot of the Pyrenees.
Die Abreise (The Departure) is a comic opera in one act by composer Eugen d'Albert. The libretto was written by Ferdinand Sporck, a friend of the composer, after a play by August Ernst Steigentesch. János Kulka conducted the Philharmonia Hungarica; the singers were Hermann Prey (Gilfen), Edda Moser (Luise) and Peter Schreier (Trott). Die Abreise: musikalisches Lustspiel. D'Albert repudiated his early training and upbringing in Scotland and considered himself German. While pursuing his career as a pianist, d'Albert focused increasingly on composing, producing 21 operas and a considerable output of piano, vocal, chamber and orchestral works.
