Many consider this to be the greatest Schubert sonata, and it has been widely recorded. The album closes with a less well known sonata in A (D664), composed in 1819 when Schubert was 22. In between are the Moments Musicaux (D780), a set of six short pieces in a variety of moods, and two sets of Impromptus (D899 and D935) composed in 1827 or possibly earlier.
