Peter Karl Studios, New York. CD - Navona Records 6016).

On her Navona Records release PERSONAE, pianist Beth Levin presents works from Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849), Anders Eliasson (1947-2013), and Robert Schumann (1810-1856) that highlight each composer’s unique voice and style. Praised by Jeremy Eichler of the New York Times for her boldly inflected readings and impressive ability to convey emotion without exhibition, Levin animates the personalities of each composer with aplomb, passion, and elegance.

Beth Levin, concert pianist. Beth Levin is an American pianist with superb technique and great imagination, who has been turning out recordings of real interest for some time now. Born in 1950, Levin’s teachers include Rudolf Serkin, Leonard Shure, and Paul Badura-Skoda. Her playing shows influences from her teachers, but it also demonstrates a personality willing to take interpretive risks and a determination to put her own.

Beth Levin (December 17, 1950) is an American classical pianist in the Romantic tradition of her teachers Marian Filar, Rudolf Serkin, Leonard Shure, and Dorothy Taubman at the Taubman Institute. Levin is devoted to the highly expressive and demanding repertoire of Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, and Ravel, as well as to the work of leading modernists such as Anders Eliasson, David Del Tredici, Alexander Goretzky, Louis Karchin, and Scott Wheeler.

Beth Levin's A Single Breath is an excellent interpretation of Beethoven's last three piano sonatas, and one that this listener has enjoyed playing over and again. It clearly shows the composer's passion, innovation and prescient brilliance, and Ms. Levin's interpretation clearly show that this is a heartfelt work. Among the many pianists who have recorded the late sonatas of Beethoven, some stand out: Goode, for his Romantic spirit; Pommier, as Classical as Brendel is intellectual; Schiff and Pollini for their elegance.
