Michael Wayne Campbell (born February 1, 1950) is an American guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. Campbell was a member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and co-wrote many of the band's hits with Petty, including "Refugee", "Here Comes My Girl", "You Got Lucky", and "Runnin' Down a Dream". His work outside the group includes composing and playing on the Don Henley hit "The Boys of Summer"

Mike Campbell - Man Coach. Mike has helped me transformed how I see and feel about myself at has been hidden away for a very long time. The tools he gives you and the advice a long the way is so powerful but he also puts it all back on you. He facilitates your growth, he doesn't do it for you. If you are stuck in a rut, and struggling to find out who you are, Mike is the Man to help you out!

For nearly 40 years, Mike Campbell has been best known as Tom Petty's right-hand man. He played with Petty in the pre-Heartbreakers band Mudcrutch and co-wrote, co-produced and played the searing guitar leads on some of Petty's greatest songs. But Campbell also produced, played with and wrote songs for artists that range from Roy Orbison to the Wallflowers to the Dixie Chicks. After working on Don Henley's 1984 solo album Building the Perfect Beast (see No. 2 on our list of the Top 10 Mike Campbell Songs), Campbell reunited with him for the follow-up five years later. His biggest contribution can be found on The End of the Innocence's closing track, one of Henley's best ballads, which Campbell co-wrote and co-produced. That's also Campbell on guitar in the original studio version. Campbell's smokin' solo at the end of the song is one of his most celebrated.

Mike Campbell is certainly one of them. Campbell's guitars include many industry standards and attainable pieces in addition to his signature models. He's used it on 'I Just Want to Make Love To You', 'Muddy Water' so of course it's okay," says Mike Campbell's guitar tech about the Barney Kessel 1954 Electric Guitar. Midway through the Beacon Theater run we spoke with guitarist Mike Campbell about the tour, his long history in the Heartbreakers and playing on Bob Dylan’s 2009 LP Together Through Life. I’ve seen you guys a lot, but that first night at the Beacon felt really special. I said, Well, maybe one song. He said, I want to do this album on one microphone, like a Bing Crosby record. I totally got it. We put one microphone in the middle of the room, and the engineer has just got this look like a deer in headlights, like Oh my God, what am I gonna do?
