Animated Cheerful Dramatic Energetic Gentle Heroic Lyrical Melodic Passionate Sophisticated. Maria Bengtsson, Bertrand de Billy, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra. Beethoven: Overture Leonore; Ah! Perfido!; Cherubini: Symphony; Vous voyez de vos fills.

Beethoven: overture leonore; ah! Perfido!; Cherubini: symphony; vous voyez de vos fills.

Perfido, Op. 65. Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. Beethoven: Leonore Overture No. 1, Op. 138. Cherubini: Symphony in D major. Bertrand de Billy has selected Luigi Cherubini’s only symphony with his new orchestra in mind. This recently appointed guest conductor of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne revealingly relates Cherubini to Ludwig van Beethoven, with Maria Bengtsson in top form as Medea. Since Cherubini composed his symphony for London, we should not be surprised to find the late Haydn peering around the corner now and again. Maria Callas successfully lent her support to Cherubini’s Medée, and ever since it has been one of his greatest stage hits. His t that the work was too long.

His professional operatic conducting debut was for La Traviata in Oviedo, Spain in 1991, replacing a conductor at short notice

Multifaceted Characters Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed about twenty five operas – and with them often asked too much of his contemporaries. Perfido' O. 5, one of the highlights on an MDG disc devoted to works by Cherubini and Beethoven Cherubini: Symphony, Beethoven: Ah, Perfido! - Bengtsson, de Billy. Maria Bengtsson receives sympathetic support throughout from Bertrand de Billy and the fine Lausanne Chamber Orchestra that includes a tasteful modicum of attention paid to period practice (fortepiano continuo and minimum use of vibrato). The warm and spacious ambience of the Salle Métropole, Lausanne as captured on MDG's refined . (or 2+2+2) multi-channel recording provides a perfect aural backdrop to the soprano's entrancing performances of these arias.
