Walt Dickerson décédé à l'âge de 77 ans; a fait une série d'excellents disques au début des années 60, dont ce disque «To my Queen » qui est véritablement tres beau. Il installe un magnifique climat langoureux. Le premier morceau est un long poème d'amour (17 minutes) à son épouse Elisabeth. Il doit être amoureux fou de sa Liz, tant la musique est empreinte de romantisme et de passion. Morceau difficile à décrire, longue lente suite mélodique. Le morceau est d'autant plus agréable à écouter que Walter s'est entouré d'excellents musiciens d'avant-garde, au premier rang desquels le pianiste Andrew Hill (mort en avril 2007), pianiste délicat et inventif. L'excellent bassiste George Tucker, et le batteur Andrew Cyrille (qui rejoindra ensuite Cecil Taylor et bien d'autres) complètent le quartet. Andrew offre un accompagnement percussif subtil qui convient merveilleusement bien au climat introspectif du morceau.La deuxième moitié de l'album maintient l'ambiance installé par la première, en comportant une version séduisante de 11 minutes de «How Deep Is the Ocean». Le disque se termine par un duo vibraphone et basse sur «God bless the Child».C'est indubitablement le meilleur quartet que Walt Dickerson ait conduit. Les musiciens font tous preuve d'un sens musical aigu, chacun servant les morceaux avec goût et raffinement. C'est autant une musique du coeur que de l'esprit. Je le trouve véritablement encore très «moderne» 46 ans plus tard (le disque a été enregistré en septembre 1962 par le célèbre ingénieur Rudy Van Gelder)Très vivement recommandé.PS : En 1978, Walt enregistrait une suite To My Queen Revisited qui est plus banale.
