Bronski Beat are a British synthpop trio which achieved success in the mid-1980s, particularly with the 1984 chart hit "Smalltown Boy", from their debut album The Age of Consent, which was their only US Billboard Hot 100 single.
Strangely, the album doesn’t contain I Feel Love/Johnny Remember Me made famous for including Marc Almond and it seems strange that is it missing. Strange goes to irony as one of three new tracks, Flower For Dandara closes disc one on a high note – a tribute to the Brazilian transsexual Dandara dos Santos who was callously murdered outside her Brazilian home earlier this year. All words by Paul Scott-Bates. More of Paul’s writing on Louder Than War can be found at his author’s archive.

To say The Age of Consent is a great album of dance-oriented synth-pop music is to sell it extremely short; this is simply a great album, period.
